Hanging of the Syroco

Here it is, the big gold Syroco wall art. I hung it up in my bedroom and it looks great! It is more striking in person.

The new Turquoise pillow on my bed is not supposed to be there. It is actually a new pillow I've made for our Etsy Shop, I just thought I'd see how it looks.

Syroco + Giralt Lerin Paintings

Ely found a couple wall art gems this weekend, one of which will hang above my bed.

This Syroco piece is quite large, and will be perfect in my room because I already have some Syroco (the diamonds), as well as the gold star pillows on my bed. I'll take photos of it hanging up later!

The other piece is a Giralt Lerin print in an amazing mid century frame. The original painting was done in 1964.

PLEATS PLEASE

We love vintage Pinch Pleat curtains, and there seem to be lots of them popping up at thrift stores. In Seattle, at least. Yesterday we came across some that still were folded up and brand new with their directions still attached. I have needed curtains in my bedroom since I moved into my apartment a few months ago, so I got those.

Hanging them was the difficult part, because the little vintage hooks that came attached fit very tightly around the curtain rod- They are SUPPOSED to be hung with clip rings. This I did not realize until just recently.

For now, I hung them and they look nice (and block out the bright light in the morning). They may need to be hemmed though, they touch the floor a little too much, and they will moreso after I get the clip rings.

You Win Some, You Lose Some

After the Brasilia defeat we were (clearly) very discouraged. And unsure as to whether or not we could obtain the pieces we desire.  On Saturday, Justin went to the local Goodwill and missed out on another amazing dresser that was rolled out right past him... it was $30!!

Then, today at St. Vincent de Paul  as we were checking out with some great vintage fabric, I looked down to see this (HUGE) amazing painting that was signed by Lee Reynolds! On canvas and framed. I grabbed it, but the checker said that it was sold. I wish we had the iphone with us, it was left at home so we weren't able to take a picture.

Today we even spotted a very worn out Broyhill Sculptra Modular bookcase for $50.  It was not in good shape at all, and would have taken too much work to get looking good!  But all was not lost this week.

I found some amazing items and Justin did too-  We know that the road to great finds is filled with many potholes and we just need to drive over them to get to the good stuff.

An AMAZING Conant Ball Russell Wright nightstand. I found this at Value Village for a mere $20! This will go beautifully in my bedroom- I just need to find the perfect lamp for it...

We did find this lamp, which is a beauty but too large for the nightstand. It looks great on Justin's Lane Acclaim side table. Mid Century kitty agrees.

more finds:

A cute Westclox clock that lights up, Syroco Inc. wall art, a mid century matador painting print,  and a  copper sailboat sculpture.

Isn't he dreamy?

P.S.   Does anyone know anything about mid century, white, made in Japan kitty sculpture?

Brasilia Defeat

Today was upsetting! The Brasilia gentleman's dresser on craigslist I talked about yesterday is not ours. As we were on our way to go pick it up this morning, I called the seller to tell her we were on our way and would be there soon. She said she was sorry, but she had many, many calls, and one of the callers informed her that it was worth MORE than $100, and subsequently offered her more for the dresser. I was bothered to say the least...

It seems like there's not really much of any code of ethics when it comes to Brasilia.

Anyway, instead of spending all day hauling around a dresser, we went thrift shopping again. And we found some really great things.... not as great as a Brasilia dresser... but some great things nonetheless.

1) a working percolator
2) Lane end table
3) super cool "London Lamps" lamp
4) mid century looking vase, unmarked

Pilsner Libbey Glasses and more....

What a weekend so far. First, the best news. Broyhill Brasilia Gentleman's dresser, for $100! Tomorrow we are going to pick it up, so I will chronicle tomorrow entirely. Good or bad. What a steal it will be. I already have a Brasilia dresser and Ely doesn't, so he is thrilled to say the least. At the same time, trying not to get his hopes up too much- with these things you just NEVER know.

Anyway, today we found some fun things.

First, at the Fremont vintage mall we came across a wonderful, old, and in amazing condition set of Sears luggage. It looks like two of the pieces were barely used, and for less than $75 you can get the whole set. Photos:

Now on to the furniture...

This piece has been in the mall for a few weeks now, and the price has dropped down to $190. Just about its only flaw is a hole in the back (for cords to go through). The Brasilia commode. If it gets any cheaper me and Ely might have to get it!

What we DID get today, however, was some amazing Libbey Glasses in a nearby thrift store. PERFECT condition, seemingly unused. And don't they look perfect in the Brasilia china cabinet?

Some other amazing finds. And all in one day, except for the Blenko bowl, that was a couple days ago. For $12 we got the large bowl and matching smaller bowl.

It's been a long, hard day of looking for things at thrift stores, so me and Ely are going to eat some ice cream now. TTFN!
